Muddling Through
July 1st, 2008Something about the concept of drinking fresh fruit and herbs in my cocktail always makes me feel a little less guilty about a liquid lunch, so when I do indulge before cocktail hour, I’ll often opt for a
mojito, the traditional Cuban highball made with rum, freshly muddled limes and mint. Mojitos are also known as that tasty “concoction that helps me hang on,” according to Jimmy Buffet.
For the health conscious who like to indulge, the good news is that muddled cocktails with fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs are showing up everywhere these days! With an abundance of global ingredients at our fingertips, we thought muddled cocktails could find a good home at One World Weddings. Whether you choose to have a Muddling Bar offering up different concoctions or perhaps a traveling cart where cocktails are muddled tableside, the options are endless.
For an Asian-inspired wedding, choose muddling ingredients such as limes, basil, shiso leaves, mango purée, chilies, ginger syrup and alcoholic mixers such as sake and soju to spike the drinks. For a Southern-style wedding, a muddling bar can include ingredients for muddled variations of a Mint Julep including mint, fresh strawberries and bourbon. A Brazilian muddling bar could include ingredients for the traditional caipirinha, a muddled combination of sugar, lime and cachaça, an alcohol made from sugarcane. It’s a whole new way to muddle through life!
