DOG DAY AFTERNOON
August 19th, 2008Chien. Hund. Kringmerk. Kelev. Inu. Perro. However you say it, in any land, dog is man (and wife’s) best friend. So it’s no surprise that couples all over the world are choosing to include their beloved canines in their wedding ceremonies. For many couples, their dogs ARE their children, so why not make them ring bearers, flowerdogs or even attendants?
Before you buy Fido a tux, make sure that you check that your venues allow furry friends and consider your dog’s temperament. Will he remain calm or will he need a little doggie xanax to help him through the day? Assign a dog-loving friend or family member to be his handler throughout the reception and overnight. The last thing any couple wants is their best friend to escape into the great wide open on the happiest day of their lives.
To really treat your dog to week-before pampering, you can have him groomed. (Why should the bride be the only one at the spa?) Many pet boutiques offer gourmet dog snacks that he can have as a special treat while everyone else eats their filet mignon.
Something else to consider is Fido’s attire. Have a collar made for him out of the same material as the bridesmaid dresses or he can wear a bowtie like a groomsmen. Another fun idea is to cover a collar with fresh (and of course, un-poisonous) flowers that match the bride’s bouquet.
